Connection

Well I'm sure most of you who have seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy would have no doubt watch The Hobbit trilogy. If you haven't then sorry spoiler alert, As this blog is about the connections between The Hobbit Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings one.

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit titles.
1. Okay big one here. In the Lord of the Ring, Bilbo Baggins writes a story called There and Back again: A Hobbit's Tale By Bilbo Baggins. The adventure he wrote about is the same one we get to see him go on in The Hobbit trilogy, I bet you already figured that didn't you

2. Gimli is the only dwarf to be part of the fellowship but the axe he carries is the same one that his father Gloin uses in The Hobbit films. Pasted down to his son. Gimli also ends up with Balin's axe after the small battle in Moria.

3. Speaking of Moria. In Moria there is a tomb, that Gimli kneels in front of. That tomb is that of Company member Balin from The Hobbit Trilogy. Who lead a group of dwarves back there to try and retake control of it from the Orcs and goblins. He took Oin and Ori with him.

4. Next to Balin's tomb is a corpse, You guessed it the corpse is that of Ori another member of the Company from the Hobbit Trilogy and he even gets his writing read out by Gandalf.

5. The sword that Frodo picks up during the start of An Unexpected Journey actually belonged to one of the Dwarves of the company. Can you guess which one. No well it actually belonged to Fili, one of the two princes and Heir.

6. During The Two Towers Frodo says "This is Sting you've seen it before haven't you Gollum". Indeed he has, Over sixty years before in the Goblins Caves of the Misty Mountains, When Bilbo owned the same sword.

7. Thorin Oakenshield is mentioned by Gandalf in the extended version of The Fellowship of the ring. Most didn't have a living clue who that was but we do find out who he is in The Hobbit Trilogy. Thorin son of Thrain son of Thror king under the mountain.
Thorin Oakenshiled
8. The Mithril shirt that Bilbo gives to Frodo in the Fellowship of the Ring is the same one that Thorin gave to Bilbo before the huge battle in the battle of the five armies

9. Legolas, Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, Saron, Saruman, Gollum, Bilbo, the ring wraiths and Gloin are the only characters from the original lord of the rings series to make appearances in The Hobbit trilogy. Of course the wraiths were actually in there ghosts form but that still counts right.

10. The eye of Smaug, anyone think it looked slightly familiar, then you would be right, there are an awful lot of similarities between Smaug's eyes and the great of Saron

11. The elven king Thranduil is the father of fellowship of the ring member Legolas

Legolas the only elf of the fellowship

12. Aragorn is mentioned by Thranduil at the end of The battle of the five armies

13. In an Unexpected Journey Azog the defiler has a meeting with the Orcs under his command at a hill top. That hill top is the exact same please where Merry, Pippin, Frodo and Sam are cornered by the ring wraiths over sixty years later

14. Speaking of Weathertop, the morgal blade that Radagast the brown finds in Dol Gondur is the same one that is used to stab Frodo over sixty years later and it is used by the same wraith both times. The witch king of Angmar.

15. The trolls that Bilbo and the company encounter in the forest are the same ones that Bilbo tells hobbit children about in his stories and the same ones that Frodo and Sam come across in the forest after Frodo is stabbed, except there already stone obviously

Same trolls in Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the ring
16. The Eagles have something to do with the climatic battle at the end of both trilogies. In The Hobbit the eagles come and help the Dwarves. Men and Elves defeat the two armies of Orcs lead by Azog the defiler and his son Bolg, but they also help to fight of the nazguals in the final battle of Lord of the Rings The Return of the king

17. Okay you all know Peter Jackson directed both trilogies, but did you know he made camo appearance nearly all six films. Like Stan Lee does with the marvel cinematic universe. He made an appearance in An Unexpected Journey as a dwarf running past Thorin when Smaug attacked Erebor, and plays a drunken man eating a carrot in Desolation Of Smaug and appeared at least once in The Fellowship of the Ring. Other scenes he was in never made the final cut but may appear in extended editions.

18. Actor Bret Mckenzie played an unnamed elf in the original trilogy which fans dubbed Figwit standing for Frodo Is Great … Who Is That?, he was asked back to play a completely different character called Lindir, an Elf of Elrond's house, since the actor got so much attention in the original trilogy Peter Jackson asked him back.

19. Pippin's return. Okay the character of Pippin Took doesn't actually return in The Hobbit Trilogy but the actor who portrayed him Billy Boyd sings the final song of the trilogy, during the credits of The battle of the five armies. The song is called the last goodbye.

20. The map that we see in The Fellowship of the Ring that Gandalf picks up is the same map that we see Gandalf give to Thorin at Bag End along with the key to the mountain. The Map of the lonely mountain.
The map of The Lonely Mountain in Lord of the Rings

21. The start of An Unexpected Journey is set just before the events of Lord of the rings The Fellowship of the Ring and the end of The Battle of the Five Armies ends with Gandalf coming to the Bilbo's door during The Fellowship of the Ring

22. Okay you may not have noticed this one and it probably doesn't count but there is a love triangle in both of trilogies. In the original Lord of the Rings, Eowyn falls in love Aragorn who was in love with the elf Arwen. Everyone knows that Aragorn marries Arwen and they rule man kind together and Eowyn eventually meets and marries Faramir. The love triangle in The Hobbit trilogy is between two elves and a dwarf. Legolas is in love with Tauriel but Tauriel falls for the dwarf prince Kili. This one doesn't have such a happy ending. Kili is killed during the battle of the five armies, Tauriel's fate is unknown (Maybe died of broken heart or guarded Kili's tomb) and Legolas goes on to become a member of the fellowship.
